Buying truck that has emissions system bypassed

Found a 2015 f250 I may possibly buy. The truck has 100k miles. The person said they were having an issue with the DEF system. So they just went ahead and bypassed the DEF system, EGR, and the DPF. do you think this would be a good buy. Or should I avoid a truck like this?

Do you need to pass emissions to get a sticker every year? If so then it will not pass and you'll be stuck fixing whatever the issue is. If not then I would still look into it. Any maintenance records available? What are they asking for it? What tune is it running right now?

SO many questions....

But my big question would be "What issues were they having?" I.e.: codes etc.... did they delete and put a wicked tune on it and drag racing or was it just a few blown sensors and they decided to delete to bypass the expense of repair?

Also, condition the truck? what was it used for? See if someone (a ford mechanic or someone nice with access) can pull an Oasis report on it for you.... you'll need the VIN.

Just my 2 cents.

When it comes to mechanics, everything I know is from either breaking it or watching someone else do the same. Then I had to fix it....Is that bad?

Murphy's Law: "things will go wrong in any given situation, if you give them a chance."

I do not. There are no inspections in my state. It was a company vehicle. The person that purchased it said the check engine light was on. There was a problem with the DEF system. So they bypassed all the emissions stuff. Its stock tuning. The only thing they have done is bypass that stuff. The vehicle is at a dealership.

The truck is in great shape. It has some scratches and dings in spots from being a work truck. They told me that it was all bypassed because they didnt want to pay to fix the emissions stuff. They're asking 17k.

Well it's not stock tuning because the truck wouldn't run if it was the way it is right now.

Ok. The guy said the only thing they had changed was in the computer to bypass emissions. I didnt ask about any specific tuning changes.

Well this is stuff you should ask and find out. If the truck was "rigged" to bypass that stuff with no proper tune, I'd pass on it. And how much are they asking anyways?

MAKE SURE YOU GET THE TUNER AND TUNES with the truck......DO NOT BUY IT WITHOUT THE TUNER...
