Oil full after 12 qts?

Just did an oil change on my '13 F250 yesterday (Valvoline PBX in 1 gallon jugs) - after letting everything drain for 20 minutes or so I refilled with 3 jugs and then checked. After only the 3 jugs (12 quarts unless common core math has changed that) my dipstick is reading smack in the middle of the fill range. Thought perhaps it just hadn't found its way into all the nooks so I let it run for a few minutes to circulate - after a little cool down it is still reading right in the middle of the range.

Is it possible there was enough residual oil left from the change to be 'full' after 12 quarts? Oil on the stick was still very clean/not sooty as if it had a large portion of old oil mixed in.

A little history to consider - after my last oil change with 13 quarts the dipstick was reading right at the top or a little over. I figured I did not let it drain enough or perhaps was a little heavy handed on the last required quart.

I do not want to run this engine low on oil - but I don't want too much either.

I guess my question is do i add the 13th quart knowing it will show a little high or leave it as is with the indicator right in the middle of the fill range?

Check it after driving around for a bit and letting it sit over night. Does the dipstick say what amount to add when oil reaches add line? my 7.3 has a little "add line denotes 2 quarts low" but not all dipsticks say etc. Checking the owners manual will say too. I like to get mine to but not above the full line to see if it burns any between changes etc.

After changing my oil, I'm right in the middle of the dip stick. I just leave it at 12 qtrs. The book says 12, so I don't add more to top off dipstick.
