I have run 5W-40 since the day I bought mine. Changed every 5k miles. Used Rotella for the most part until 35000, then Valvoline PBX ever since. I just finished my 95k service.

I have contemplated using Triax Fleet Supreme ESP 5W-40, Class 8 trucks go 80k on oil drains. If I did this, I would go 10k on oil changes with an analysis.

Thoughts??

Just changed it at the Ford dealer and they put in 15-40. This is in CA where temp doesn't get lower that 50 degrees or so. Who am I to argue?

I used triax in my 6.0 and it loved it. I got oa a few times but never went more than 7k on a change.
I read on triax website that 6.7 get 1 to 2 mpg more with their oil. Im going to try n see and ill report back. I never get over 14.8 towing and 18.9 highway un loaded

Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 since the third oil change. Ford filter. Local Meijer sells the Mobil 1 for $25 a gallon.

I use Mobil 5W40 with Donaldson or Wix X filters. Change oil when minder goes off, usually around 10,000 miles. No problems. Any synthetic will give better protection than standard oil. I'll let you know how the oil sample comes back. I use synthetic in everything I own (vehicles, skid steer, garden tractor, lawn mowers, tiller etc). Never had an oil related failure using synthetic and it holds up better especially on air cooled engines. As long as it meets the manufacturer's specs, you should be good. More important than brand that it meets the manufacturer's specs.

I also used mobil 1 TBT until ford announced their new oil standard due to excessive wear. mobil 1 tbt does not meet ford oil spec WSS-M2C171-F1. I checked the bottles and even called mobil 1 tech support to ask.

After finding out I tried red line diesel truck oil but it is too expensive. Now I buy amsoil 15w-40 signature diesel truck oil with their preferred buyer program pricing.

Used to buy motorcraft filters but switched to napa platinum a few years ago.
