Exactly. Don't know why anyone would choose to live there, for many reasons, but that's just me. Diesels are exempt from emissions here.

Oh, and it rained at least a little 19 of the 30 days last month. 6.7 inches of rain in June. Can wash the truck all day long!

The best part, my truck wasn't even supposed to be smogged this year. My renewal paper even said that I could renew online. Then about a month ago I got a letter saying that it needed a smog.

For anyone wondering, this state sucks. Can't tune your truck, can't change anything on your truck. Hell, due to the drought, you can't even WASH YOUR TRUCK!
My friend had this same scenario happen with his Camry a few months back (having to drive it for awhile before it could be smogged).

The test small cars too? Iowa may smell like cow #### but at least I don't have to deal with that.

They did not see a soft code...

They saw that the EGR readiness monitor was not set.

I recommend moving, if not for emissions laws but gun laws.

haha f this state, only here for mil reasons but man do they know how to give it to ya. registration 400+ this year......roads suck, diesel prices suck (better than gas tho) people mostly suck. weather is nice here i can give it that. I might be headed back to GA to register my truck now after this. God forbid i put a little puff of coal on the road and and every hippie with a medical mask retaliates.

Still have to smog in Cali, no matter the registration state.

^^^^THIS^^^^

We have been getting consistent phone calls from our customers in CA asking about this very subject. It sounds like the inspection stations and procedures have changed this year. The ECM monitors items like egr on the 6.0L and if it does not complete the self test, it will have a "Readiness Monitor Not Complete" warning which NOW will fail in CA.

Here we have the opacity test, plus a visual inspection. Basically you slam the engine up against the rev limit and hold it for a few seconds. You repeat this procedure 3-4 times, if the smoke out of the exhaust is below their given threshold, then you pass. We have yet to see them hook any type of scan tool, or diagnostic equipment to the truck, although that day is probably coming.

What happens if they break something with these procedures?
