New CA smog laws????

Got mine smogged today with an unlimited tow tune on, no p1000 codes or anything on my cts, but the egr readiness was coming up on his end and he failed me. He didn't even look under the truck or notice I have an egr delete. Anyone got any ideas if this readiness will go away with driving it even though the egr is turned off? Is it possible to turn the egr on and allow it to function but hide the code from lack of flow?

Yes, which is what the problem is I'm hoping. I was a couple days ago, and I haven't drove the truck much. What I'm curious about though is if that egr readiness will even go away after I drive it for while since the tune turns it off anyways. Guess I can drive it awhile and retry. If that doesn't work I'm gonna have to throw an egr cooler on....

Most likely a side effect of the tune. Most of the "custom tunes" have the egr valve off function active, which may not allow the readiness monitors to go through.

Makes me so glad to have moved out of the People's Republik of California 20 years ago. The smog tests were a pain even then. I can imagine that things haven't improved.

Reflash back to stock and drive it for a few hundred miles and you should be good for a retest. You need to run if for some time before the computer will confirm that there has been enough data collected to allow smog testing to be performed after confirming all onboard systems are working properly. Most tuners cause the egr to remain closed and not set a check engine light. Most likely the smog machine was able to determine it was defeated hence the fail.

Now, since you have the egr blocked or deleted you are in for some problems as the obd2 system will throw a ait2 CEL forEGR insufficient flow since the sensor wont detect a rise in the intake temp that it should of the valve was flowing hot exhaust gasses with a properly functioning EGR.

Not sure of the logic (temp diff requirement) between ait1 & ait2. Some people used to fool pre and post cat O2 sensors by adding a resistor to change to value of the post cat sensor. In your case it's probably best to install a BPD EGR cooler and be done with it but maybe someone has some insight as to how to address the ait2 sensor issue you will have.

If I run it on a stock tune it's going to throw a code for insufficient flow I would imagine since I have an egr delete

I don't think you'll ever get rid of the readiness code with a delete. There may be a tuner out there that can do it, but I don't know of one. Time to reinstall the EGR or move.
