Steering box

So in 1 month I'm going on my 4th steering box. Two had tons of play. Last one was fine for a week then jammed up turning to left. Ford makes and remans crap parts. NO QUESTION absolute BS!

I just tightened mine this weekend! Hope it doesn't lock up. I got nervous after reading threads like this so I got the steering wheel tighter, then backed off 1/4 turn just to be safe... MUCH nicer to control the rig now!

Can it lock up even after tightening it? It the steering box really supposed to be tightened up there or is this something that someone did one day? How can you tell when tight is good, then back it off? Do you just tell by the tension on the steering wheel.

I had a lot of slop. I still have a little after I backed off from a snug wheel feel... I read up on tightening, not sure if it's an actual Ford fix or not. But it helped me a ton!!!
