My gut is the alternator post being the first issue.

With all the test vehicles we had at the facility I managed, we had one OE vehicle with an alternator post issue and took out a power inverter we had in the vehicle to power the 120v test instrumentation. Our connection for 12v was at the battery posts, not at the alternator so it's wasn't a bad modification. The power inverter was $600.

Over the 25 years, we had diodes go bad and voltage regulators go bad, but those never took out any electronics.

At this point Jack it is hard to say but I am confident that it did not help anything.

I am surprised that these FICM's do not have a fail safe built in to prevent internal damage from amperage spikes/drops.

I have come to the conclusion that the HEUI system is junk and probably the reason it is not in production vehicles anymore....just my opinion

Well one thing good to keep in mind - you have a solid network of help on the 6.0L boards!

Unfortunately the ability to help DOES have a few limitations! Electrical troubleshooting can be so very hard .... even w/ the truck in your possession.

Yes sir and you are a great reference Mark.

Intermittent electrical issues are by far the worst!

I will report back after I have put some miles on the truck and know she is fixed for good....wish me luck

It needed more time to sort out, and at launch, they were already into cost-cutting. When I was with an International engineer (brakes) he had said before the first trucks hit the dealers parking lot Ford was jumping on them about cost savings. As a supplier, our company had the same directive for MY2003 and you could see that in many components comparing 2002 to 2003 trucks.

Siemens I've thought was good in their electronics, but I'm sure they were hit too. But any electronic circuit I think would have a hard time with intermittent contact on either the negative or positive side of the alternator.

Some have said it can generate around 100 volts. I've never seen that nor care to test the theory. I've seen high voltage in the 16's, and abnormal AC from bad diodes, but that approached 1.0vac.

Agree 100% - about @bismic & electrical issues!!! I'd rather deal with a mechanical issue than an intermittent electrical gremlin ANY DAY!!! It might act up - it might run perfect, then leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere!

Glad you got her all fixed up. I'm leaning towards the alternator sparky too. Electronics don't like it when you try to let the smoke out

Glad you got her shorted out ( spelling intended , LOL ) . Thanks for keeping us up to date , I hate reading many pages of a thread only to find it dead at the end ( no finish ) .
I will say one thing , the FICM is in a fantastic spot on these trucks , totally encased in heat and hard to get at quickly . Probably the same guy that designed the oil dipstick shape and location designed the FICM mount and location ......GRRRRRR !

So far so good. I am going tow the boat outta here and back to storage tomorrow so I can have room to work on my 91 s-10 truck I have been meaning to get back on the road as a back up vehicle for these type of setbacks.

I will continue to update for future post seekers

Thanks for your time and help
