The worst part of all this, is when I did the heads, I bought a new glow plug harness and I almost bought a new fuel injection harness just to be on the safe side. I looked it over and it seemed ok looking so I didn't. The engine harness had some questionable spots on it and I cleaned it up the best I could and had to replace the IRP sensor plug. (I didn't know you could still buy the engine harness new at that time)

I hate to spend even more money on a full harness but damn, I have to be able to trust this truck as I will be taking it out of state a lot.. I think getting a new harness is the best call vs trying to repair the plugs and still maybe having a short somewhere.

What about bismic's post on the orientation of the GPCM and the change in 04?

If you happen to have it secured in a manner similar to a 2003 engine (HORIZONTAL ORIENTATION), you have a mid/late build 2004 engine. As such, your engine uses engine harness Ford part number 4C3Z-12B637-AA (Navistar ID# 1844262C93), to be used with glow plug harnesses part numbers 4C3Z-12A690-AA (Navistar ID# 1845915C9) right side, and 4C3Z-12A690-BA (Navistar ID# 1845793C9) left side.

If you have your GPCM mounted on the bracket, identically to the way it is on 2005 and later engines (VERTICAL ORIENTATION), you have a late/late build 2004 engine. As such, your engine use engine harness Ford part number 4C3Z-12B637-CA (Navistar ID# 1846377C92), and glow plug harness Ford part numbers 4C2Z-12A690-AB (Navistar ID# 1845794 C9) right side, and 4C2Z-12A690-BA (Navistar ID# 1845695 C9). Notice, the right side glow plug harness part number is also identical to that, that is used on '05 and later engines.

Considering how cooked these harnesses get, how stiff the insulation becomes, from my perspective if you are moving them around a lot with head or cooler repairs, I'd flip in a new if it's more then 10 years old. But that's me.

I'm right at the cusp, putting in a new harness in 2010.

Ok, so far as the fuel pump on the frame rails.. It appears to have 2 plugs but a total of 4 wires. Do you mean 3 "wires" or 3 "plugs"

sorry I'm just trying to cross all my I's and dot all my T's so I order the right one for 100% sure.. lol

Yours is an '05 so it didn't have the fuel heater therefore it'll only have 2 connectors (plugs not wires) on the frame pump
Your glow plug harnesses are
4C2Z-12A690-AB on the right side
5C3Z-12A690-A on the left

So it would be the 4C3Z-12B637-CA engine harness? not the one ending in AA based off this post being it doesn't have the fuel heater

The 4C3Z-9D930-AA is the correct injector harness for trucks built after 12/01/03

As a side note does it matter if I order the harness with the fuel heater and simply end up with a extra plug vs not having it and maybe needing it? If that's the only difference?

as for the glow plugs, I can confirm those are the part numbers of what I previously ordered for them

5C3Z-12A690-A on the left

Since yours is listed as an 05 - you REALLY need to remember that (as Voodoridr posted). He provided what you need by VIN # (the best way to do it!!).

For other 05 owners ...............

Early build 2005 Engine Harness F-Series (EBP mounted to T-Stat housing):
5C3Z-12B637-AA

Engine Harness: '05 to '07 F series (EBP mounted to front FICM bracket):
5C3Z-12B637-BA

alright, parts ordered.. thanks everyone.. Also I pulled the flasher relay and it stops the clicking, so I'll have to sort that issue out before I drive it again.. I'll do the simple fix 1st and that's to try a new relay
