transfer case oil. xl-12???

apparently there is new oil recommended for the transfer case of my 2006 f-250, and its called xL-12. anyone have any info? do I need to get motocraft XL-12, or is other XL-12 ok?

It doesnt use auto trans fluid...?

Regular cheap Mercon rated atf works just fine.

00 f250 ext. cab, lb, 4x4, 158,000, zf 6 speed, South Bend 1944ofe, 4 in lift, 315/75/16 Courser MXTs, rear Detroit locker, PMF traction bars, Full Force 180/80 injectors, php hydra, Riff Raff frx, Riff Raff billet compressor wheel, Dieselsite pre pump kit, Dorman up pipes,IAH delete, ccv mod, 6637 filter, Auto Meter gauges, scan guage 2, 4 in diamod eye straight pipe 6 in tip.

I don't think you would want a low viscosity formula (like SP or LV) in the transfer case.

fords xl12 was the same viscosity and feel as Mercon LV IMO and VooDoo has provided us with the Ford sheet stating that xl12 is no longer the preferred fill (use Mercon LV )

I have used tranny fluid in all xfer cases for the last 15 yrs or so....never an issue
