Towing with a tuner
 
Ok so don’t jump down my throat with this. But I’m running a sct tuner about to pull a trailer on a pretty reasonably big camping trailer and I’m going to use the towing tune. But do I still use the towing button on my shifter while running the towing tune? I already realize I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed just not sure what to do. All feed back welcome.

Is it a generic SCT tow tune? Or is it from a reputable tuner? I would just monitor your temps to make sure everything is good and take it easy. You can still use the tow-haul button while using a tow tune.

All tuners I have spoke with recommended to always use tow haul when pulling the camper. I am guessing you used the tow tune that came with the SCT but did you also choose the Tow tuning for the transmission? Also make sure you have a couple hundred miles on your time before you hook up to your trailer since these trucks need to relearn parameters in the transmission. Use it if you need it. Not sure about the generic SCT tow tune, but many custom tow tunes add a little exhaust brake when the T/H is activated. This can be handy on hills. Depending on the weight and overall health of the truck, you may not really need T/H for flat ground towing. Other than the exhaust brake, all T/H really does is delay upshifts to allow the RPM to stay up. Once you're cruising in O/D it makes no difference.

What tow tune are you using? And yes you still want to activate the tow/haul button. I have Eric's tow tune and haul a 38' toyhauler.

I have a 2006 F-250 and I have been using the SCT stock 50HP tow tune with the tow transmission setting on. I do like the 50HP tune over the 85HP (I think) tune that comes with the SCT tuner. I want to do a DYNO tune on the truck but I can't seam to find a place near Denver that will do a DYNO tune for our trucks. If you know one let me know I would love to get mine done.

First off. Monitor EGTís

Play with the tow haul button and see what you prefer. Like @G8orFord said there are things the button does. I prefer to engage it ONLY when ascending or descending otherwise I leave it off. I like that it keeps the rpm up when ascending and I like the downshifting it does when descending. I towed with it on during my entire trip last month. I will most likely revert back to only using it to descend/ascend. For me my MPG suffers if towing with it on the entire trip.

So you like Eric's tow tune? I have a F550 and am looking for a good tow tune to use when towing my 42' toy hauler. The truck has 4.88 gears.The trailer is close to 20K when loaded down with all the toys and gear.

I like his tow map the best. I get lower EGT's and it gives just a touch of extra HP over stock.
