Turbo Whistle

Hey guys so I just installed a KC stage 2, owdog intake and 4" turbo back straight pipe MBRP. Anyone else with this set up, is your turbo whistle ear piercing? Not bad at idle but if she high idles you cant stand close to end of pipe.

A KC stage 2 paired with a straight pipe will definitely be loud that’s for sure. Nothing out of the ordinary there.

Majority of the upgrade turbos do that. My neighbor said that when I first moved in he got flashbacks to being on the flight deck of a carrier when I would start my truck. Garrett Powermax, 4" downpipe and about 3' of 4" straight pipe before it turns out the side

I loved my 2006 P-max whistle.....as above quite loud but it's what I wanted. Wish my 6.7L could get that high pitched whistle.

I also have a 10 vane KC and yea I agree with OP that turbo pitch was crazy loud. It bounced off of fence posts on barb wire fences.
No joke, I rolled down my D/S window and heard it bouncing off the passing cars on roads.

I liked the sound but not at the level with no cat or muffler.
I had a 4” Corsa muffler and it did nothing.
My solution was a:
Diamond Eye 4” muffler
Magnaflow 4” together.
Both are SS and straight thru packing type mufflers.

I still have a whistle sound but very subtle. I do like it and 0% power loss.

Good Luck on it. Honestly one muffler would likely been enuf but I bought the Diamond Eye and was given Magnaflow. I wanted to snip it in the bud so I just slapped on both.

Enjoy

I have some hearing loss anyway so just to help out the OP I’ll swap my stock intake and Turbo with him. 😜

Mine is not a stage II but I do run a 10 blade through a 4” stainless downpipe to 5” tubing to a stack. I am running an FTE resonator and the results are excellent. Lots of whistle sound but no drone or piercing shriek. Also make sure the exhaust is well anchored as a loose exhaust adds resonance that makes the problem worse.

^ This 150%! Also be mindful that a 4" downpipe is a tight fit and you will have maybe 1/4" on either side where it comes down between the firewall and transmission (at least on a ZF-6) and if it makes contact with the body or the transmission the vibration will drive you nucking futs...ask me how I know

2008 6.4 egr deleted, almost 200,000 miles...
original turbo started whistling....installed an AFE Bladerunner....it whistles and hisses at the same place. actuator arm.
Before I swap the turbo AGAIN...
I am thinking some parts of the exhaust may be clogged. My dpf was supposed to be hollowed out somewhat, 30,000 miles back and stopped regen at that time.
Would like to hear opinions on this, please. The turbo swap was not easy.
Could the DPF or Cat or muffler be clogged and could it produce this symptom?
I see the DPF deletes on ebay, don't really want LOUD...guess I have to use a muffler in there. Would love some advice.
Thanks Guys
JC

Thanks for everyone's input I just wanted to make sure was not just my truck. Yeah that down pipe is a pain it keeps shifting around on me. I love the whistle but also thinking about adding muffler or resonator just to take the edge off especially when truck is in my shop, feels like its piercing my soul lol.
