Trans fluid compatibility

A shop did a fluid flush on the trans before I bought it - they said they used "BG" full syn fluid

https://www.bgprod.com/catalog/trans...synthetic-atf/

I've been wanting to do a drain/refill and swap over to the 08+ trans pan and filter at the same time. I bought a bunch of Mercon SP.

Can I mix them? Is one better than the other?

never ever heard of the BG fluid. and The mercon is full synthetic and you already have it. Just use it as its a proven fluid for the truck. I used Mercon SP and LV during the transition years for the ford recommended fluid and no issues. I wouldn't use something like BG personally since the Mercon is a proven quality fluid. AND you already have it...

How long have you been running the SP and LV? I did a good amount of research when I changed mine and the majority consensus was the 4r100 required Mercon V only. Even though I read all about the Ford transition to SP and LV.

Even though I had already purchased SP then switched my thinking to Mercon V. I still have 9 quarts of SP sitting in the garage. I've been using it to top off my daughters '98 Camry powersteering because of a leak. LOL

Who is running the 4R100? I assumed the OP is running a 6.0L.

Assuming Justin is? My intent is not to hijack the thread though. Just a question and short comment.

Gotcha! I wasn't jumping on you for a hijack, I just wasn't following the reason for the question!

I run dexmerc in my 4r100 behind the 7.3l I drive. I ran the mercon lv/sp in the 5r100 when I had my 6.0ls. had them over 30k miles after service and no issues. had a shift solenoid I needed to replace but that was super quick and easy.

Personally I wouldn't run mercon V in the 4r100s do your research and come to your own conclusion though. The Valvoline dexmerc is available at walmart and technically the closest to the original mercon the e4rods and 4r100s came with so I went with that for price, availabity and being closest to oringal spec fluid etc.

Probably another companies name for their version of sp or lv.

Drain and fill like normal.
