Good shop to 'bulletproof' or 'dealerproof' my 6.0

Hi All,

I'm new here. How ya'll doin'?

I bought a 2005 F20 SuperDuty 4X4 with 94K on it about 2 years ago. I now have 135,000 on it. It runs fine but the "You are about to self destruct" light came on twice while going over the Siskiyou's a few months back. But I pulled over and all my temps were ok. I have a pireometer and it was never too hot either. Oil was fine, all pressure good.

Never happened again. But I"m planning on using it to be the main tow vehicle for my 24ft boat which it tows easily. And I'm getting a 30ft travel trailer too. So I thought I'd have the engine "Bullet Proofed" in Mesa, Arizona by Bullet Proof Diesel, or "Dealer Proofed" in Georgia by Bill Pruit of Powerstrokehelp.com

Any comments on either of these places? Recommendations? Better shops?

I live in Oregon but I can travel. I want peace of mind and good work.

Thanks,

Bradlybones

Ask the question of where to get the work done there in Oregon, check with the “Cascade Coal Rollers” Forum folks. I was ready to take my truck to Arizona also then ended up getting it done about 10 minutes from my home.
Good luck,

I'd go to either of the dealers you mentioned. People may speak bad of Bill, but aside from not returning phone calls, I can't find any bad reviews from his work. I had mine done in BPD, but I am a local. I like what BTL said about doing it local. You probably don't need the two to four day drive and a week's wait to get all that work done and can find a shop near you. I recommend starting with BPD's local installer list on their website.

The bad we speak of Bill is that he is just a sales person (even though he is the owner) and has many mistakes on his videos. He exaggerates issues as well - a good sales technique.

That said, Bill isn't the one doing the work, so you need to evaluate a shop on the work, not the sales person!

So what is this "You are about to self destruct" light you are talking about?

It is it a wrench light or a CEL? Something added on?

Add me to the list of putting the effort into finding a local shop. MUCH easier to get resolution if you do have future problems.

You answered your own question, if you want it "bulletproof" and willing to travel... go to the home of bulletproofing.

Yeah, it was the wrench. The 'you're about to self-destruct' light.

Thanks for the info, I'll check the local shop guide. I have time to look around.

Bradlybones.

The wrench light might be indicating something simple.

Might be worth troubleshooting before you spend big bucks.

I'm guessing the wrench was the oil cooler, but you can't know for sure without a monitor and watch ECT and EOT. I don't know what trips it, but I thing its 25° for 45 minutes. Just make sure you put some thought into what goes into bulletproofing, it goes from $1k for a stud only job (terrible idea) to an engine rebuild in ecess of $10k, probably excessive.
