It's an '04 engine. Truck sticker says 12\03. I guess that means early '04. It has the square EGR cooler.

unplug the valve and see if you throw a cel ( you can clear it or let it clear itself )

if so you will want to tune that out so it won't be illuminated and so you can be alerted to other CEL worthy issues that may pop up

12/03 would be a late '04. The ICP should be on the passenger side valve cover.

It's this one.

Well, on my tablet I'm having trouble figuring out linking. It's on EBay and called a Ford 6.0 EGR Eliminator.

Are you using it alone or with plates? What is your opinion so far? It seems like an easy way to stop the damage. One member here claimed he had lower EGTs when using it.

The plug doesn't necessarily prevent an EGR cooler failure. If you have an 03 to early 04 EGR cooler with the heat exchange tubes (not plates), then it may be worth the risk. If you have the late 04 and up model, those EGR coolers aren't very reliable IMO ....... even with the flow blocked off.

It appears to function as advertised, I would love to delete the EGR altogether but I can't do that living here behind the iron curtain of commiefornia.
It throws a CEL every once in a while but that's easy to clear with the CTS2

Yes to @bismic 's comment. A weak 04+ EGR cooler can fail and - while coolant is blocked from entering the intake with a spool - it can still run down the up-pipe and enter a cylinder through the exhaust manifold. Maybe not high probability, but possible.

I run a spool but after upgrading to a hardened EGR cooler.
