the Caterpillar brand CAT ELC EC1 i run is 25 bucks a gallon
but in concentrate form you buy a gallon of distilled

and now you have two gallons of premix for 13$ each

their concentrate is like 20 bucks
ea so def worth the effort to mix

zerex and rotella make the cat elc stuff too. you can often find the zerex at NAPA for under $18 a gallon of concentrate or I found rotella for 14.95 a gallon of concentrate.

fair enough. If it makes anyone feel better some inlaws were asking about it for their big rigs because the cat e5 stuff was on the list from the owners manual. 400k later hes changing the rotella stuff and looks just a little darker.

I would love to buy from cat and I worked for one of their dealerships as a Low boy driver delivering for the earth mover division, but I don't and there went the discounts hahaha.

My vote goes to Zerex Cat etc. It can be bought locally at Napa or you can get it on Amazon. It's full concentrate so essentially you get 2 gallons out of it. Part number at Napa is ZXED1

We use Delo ELC. Just outstanding coolant. Easy to get off Amazon as well:

https://www.amazon.com/Delo-22781149...XYECMKFPT9N618

They have the 50/50 and full concentrate

Amsoil is best on ATF and Gear oils

Buy 4 gallons, after flushing you put those in followed by distilled til you hit the minimum on the degas bottle.

Doing this will get you less than a 50/50 mixture since the system does not fully drain. I suggest only using the premix to top off when needed but not at a fresh fill. For a fresh fill, after flushing with distilled water, put in 14 quarts of concentrate then top off with distilled.

Per my Master Ford diesel tech, doing what you describe is not for the best cooling efficiency in hot climates for a "fresh fill" in mostly southern states (southern ca, Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, fl etc). However it would be for Midwest/northern states (including Utah, Montana ID, CO etc) where your much more likely to endure sub zero overnight temps. 50/50 pre-mix on a fresh fill is best in the south.

I'm sure there are a lot of opinions on this, but I've been using 50/50 pre-mix Delo ELC. No issues.

point being after doing a cooling system flush and finishing with pure distilled

you have a few gallons of water left in the system

using the concentrate gets you close to 50/50 if you add 50/50 your ratio is very low and 50/50 is as low as they recommend in most cases

pretty sure Shizor9 missed the 50/50 part and was thinking concentrate ?
