I know I wouldn't recoup what I've put into my '06 if I sold it. I'm not losing $ as fast as the depreciation on a new one for the first couple years either, though. You lose money one way or other, may as well just have what you like.

Speaking of. I'm looking at having a 5.9 built for my truck and swapping. Who wants to buy my motor, and what all should entail a Cummins swap?

How much work entailed depends on what 5.9 you're looking at building. 12v or 24? If 24, VP or common rail? Are you wanting to keep the 5R110 or go to something else? Are Cummins swaps even legal in CA? Not being an azz but seriously wondering how much of a stickler they'd be on that.

While it may not have resale value per se, we all know that well-maintained the basic engine can go several hundred thousand, and the bodies and Powertrain will stand up other than in the worst rust States. So even though it may not be worth anything to sell you know that it still will give you many reliable years without having to get back into a truck payment. Spend the money to keep it up and make it look nice and run that sucker till it drops

Has to be a 1yr newer motor to smog and register. So I'd be looking at an 07 common rail 5.9.
But I have a pretty good in now on Cummins engines. So I'd be looking at basically a brand new stock build with head studs. Keep the 5r.

What Costs above the engine would I be looking at to make it a daily driver

I thought I remembered that it had to be newer or at least the same age.

From what Ive seen, where most folks tend to get hung up.....especially on the newer builds, is all the electronics that end up taking loads of extra time to do well. A lot of standalone controllers and ecm tweaks (and the harnesses to go with them) with a CR paired to a 5R.

For me, unless you wanted to spend a large amount of time (like a year ish) where you're working on it in your spare time, I'd call a few of the shops that specialize and see what kind of cost and timeline they'd give you.

There's a thread on here somewhere IIRC where a guy did it with a black one....I think he was originally in Cali then ended up moving to Texas before the truck was finished. I don't remember if it was with a CR or not....but it was a really long drawn out process. Tons of good info in it though.
