What oil are you guys using?

I was thinking about using Rotella T6 5w40. According to manual should be OK.

I was like 90% sure the book for the 3.0l calls for 5w-30. I would check the owners manual first. The 3.0l diesel is drastically different then the 6.7l in the powerstrokes. If the manual shows 5w-40 is ok though its a great oil esp for winters. My trucks runs beyond better especially in -10 with the 5w-40 full synthetic.

Your first post says "according to the manual it SHOULD be ok. I was merely asking for clarification because the 3.0l diesel is still rather new etc. Plus If you are familiar with Ford they have been known to change what oil weights are acceptable after sometime each generation of diesel is out so double checking before purchasing is never a bad idea with powerstrokes.

The old 1999 f250 owners manual for my truck never mentions 5w-40 (just 15w-40 and 10w-30) being an approved weight yet is so just wanting to help clarify

Thank you! I ordered Rotella T6 5w40, so I hope it is OK! I think it will be... This motor has been great so far! Feels strong and tough.

According to the manual is should work fine, actually preferred for severe service. When I leave it idle for hours in the summer here in Houston, I consider that severe.

I think you'll like the Rotella t6 5w-40. Also check the rotella website they had a really good promotion on buying the t6 it was like $7 a gallon and $21 for the three 1 gallons jugs in a box. It may still be going on save some money.

Doesn't look like it is.

I found this site: 3.0L Power Stroke Diesel Specs (Ford F-150 Diesel)

Scroll down to Oil specification: It very CLEARLY says SAE 5W-30 API FA-4. It then says NOT compatible with earlier CK-4, CJ-4, CI-4, CH-4.

If I had a brand new $50,000 truck still under warranty, I wouldn't consider putting the WRONG oil in it. These aren't 20 year old tractor engines like the 7.3. There are many differences in modern engines that require the correct oil additive package. Leave it to engineers that developed and validated the engine, and use their recommended oil spec. T6 isn't one of them, in fact they say DON'T use "T-6", because it is a CK-4 spec.

Read More. CK-4 5w-40 recommended for Severe Duty. I have 15 of these in a Fleet. All they get is Rotella T6. Beautiful, solid, well built, issue free trucks so far.

Powerstrokehub.com isnt official information. I get mine from the owners manual and Ford diesel oil charts.
