A call for help
Any wrench turners in western CT area willing to lend a hand?? I am in Oxford between Waterbury and Danbury. Here is the situation I got myself into.
Like a lot of members here, I like to do my own repairs when I can. I have done a frame off resto on a 65 Cutlass convertible- I learned what I could and could not do and as I progressed the cannot do list shrunk down. The only thing holding me back from doing body work-which I had never done, was me. I tried and was by many standards, successful. Well, I am getting through a 99 350 rebuild- got her registered and on the road for a short time-only a few drives and my transmission is acting up-no big surprise as the truck has been sitting over 3 years. I see it as an opportunity to get a billet converter and a better trans. Ordered one with a 3 year unlimited warrantee-received it, now gotta get the old trans out so I can get that core $$$. So I am 4 months out from my second spine surgery in 12 months. Really trying to get going again. I have 3 discs removed-8 screws and 2 long rods for support, and a cross rod connecting the 2 rods with set screw hardware.
I have the truck on stands and I have been going out a couple hours a day trying to get the trans out. Today I got the inspection cover off and was trying to get the TC nuts off. need some room so I drained the oil and was going to take the filter off for some room to use the impact as trying to hold the flywheel and turn the nuts manually is not easy. I drained the oil and could not stand up lifting a couple gallons of oil--went to dump it in a funnel to a waste oil can and it put me over the edge- guys this sucks- I know I can do it but the body says no. I cannot tell you how frustrating this is--over a year recovering already and probably at least 12 -18 months more.
So if there is a soul out there who can help me drop this trans I would appreciate it. I am not much for asking for help but I need this core to be shipped before 12/5 or I am going to lose the core refund. Not really concerned about getting the new one in--it can wait for me.
Anyone??--Heated garage and a good trans jack here--
