I can't complain at all about the Cummins 8.3 6CTA. Strong as hell for what I use it for. And it maintains 62-63mph rather quietly.

Started cuttin' down a 14' drop side bed to fit the tractor. Took the 5th wheel hitch and loading ramps off already.

I got the bed welded and the welds primed. I've been working on wire-wheelin' and spot priming the rusty/flaking paint areas. This weekend I'll be scotch-brighting the entire bed to paint it. I wouldn't normally go through all this trouble but I'm changing the color from tan to dark green so might as well do it right.

Nice Project, and you said you were going to make it a wheeler? I'm curious to see how that works out. All the ones I have seen, the guys have spent thousands. Not sure if it is due to the fact they compete, or if it is really that expensive of a hobby with those big boys. But please keep posting pics if you don't mind. And I hope it brings you lots of fun times.

I do some fun wheelin with it as a cab & chassis. I mainly use it as a recovery vehicle, between the torque and 20k lbs winch, I can help a lot of people. Tons of fun!

thanks for the interest.

Lost track of this thread and forgot to update photos. Yes, my neighbors love me. The truck in the last photo that I'm 'recovering' is on 44"s.

Yes it is.
Currently the truck is 'down', lost a cylinder and over-spun the turbo. Hopefully the cylinder dropped only because of fuel. Going to do a leak-down test within the next few days/week, once I know the piston/rings/cylinder walls are good, I'll be upgrading to larger injectors and a larger turbo.
