7.3 fuel economy

In the 9+yrs I've had my truck, the best I noticed was 18.5 mpg. This was typically from highway driving @ 65 to 75mph where I could set the cruise control. Since Monday I've been driving all 2 lane highway miles (40 to 55), and was shocked to calculate 20.1mpg over 232 miles (and I checked to be sure the tank was topped off).

Just curious as to what the rest of you see from your 7.3's?
Mine's a stock 2002 CCSB, 4x4, 4R100, 3.55 diffs, regular use of DieselKleene.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

My '01 is a CCLB, Auto, 4X4, 3.73 Diffs. Only mods are K&N CAI, 4" MBRP Turbo-back exhaust & a Hypertech Power Programmer 3 set on Stage 2.

Usually, running the freeway @ 65-70mph, cruise on, I average 16-17 mpg. The best I've ever gotten was 19.2 mpg. That was driving through Oregon on Highway 97 when the speed limit was 55. (Has since been raised to 65 between towns). I'm pretty sure the lower speeds allow for better mpg, given the truck isn't working that hard w/less wind resistance.

I’m same as supercruty. Average 17 highway empty and can hit early 19s with the tonneau cover and trying.

4x4 short bed auto and level kit with 285/75r16s and 3:73 gears. 3:55 would help me a lot but my truck is used for mainly towing so I’m happy.

-99 F250, 4X4, 6.0 trans cooler, 08 mirrors, 05 grill, AIS Intake, lvl kit, JW Vbody, cncfab hpop lines, WW2.

Just purchased a 2001 excursion. Is Diesel Kleen really worth using? Thanks.

Did you swap to 3.55s? I don't think that was a factory option on 7.3 Superduties.

Yeah, you're right. Mine is 3.73. My F150 before this had 3.55s.

Even if it does nothing else, the DK seems to reduce the rattle of my engine by a lot.

I'm only getting 11.5 lol.

2.5" lift, 35.5x13 trail grapplers, 20x10 wheels, KC turbo, 4" exhaust, intake, new international injectors, hydra set between stock, 65 and 100, 3.73 gears.

It's mostly my driving style though. Every stop sign is boosted launched and WOT for most of my highway runs. 4" straight pipe is honestly the worst mod I have ever bought. I can't keep my foot off the floor as it sounds too damn good.

Highest I've gotten with my new injectors was 14.5 on a 40 mile drive but then I got bored.

Changed oil, oil filter and fuel filter on Saturday and drove 653 round trip yesterday, reset MPG reader when I left out yesterday morning. Looked this morning and was sitting at 17.2 MPG for the trip. I noticed that the truck seemed to feel much smoother after changing fuel filter. Have never used DK or anything similar, but the new fuel filter was noticeable to me.
