Axle seals and ball joints. Good price?

Have the fluid running down the inside of my front tire. Told I need axle seals and he said that they should do ball joints while they are in there. Said I would have basically a new front end. Had the ball joints last done about 80,000 miles ago. Truck has 158,000 now. Total price $1000. Good price?

Went to another shop and they said they would just check the ball joints they may be OK. For just the axle seals. 800.

Anything else they should check or do while they have things apart?

Seems expensive, but then I've never had any vehicles in a "shop", just my garage. Seals shouldn't be too hard.

I would do the ball joints since they have 80,000.
