To Rebuild or not to rebuild, that is the question
Has been way too long since I've had a chance to do much with 7.3's but now I have an awesome project on my hands. I have a wrecked E99 with 420k on the original motor and ran like a dream when wrecked. Still runs. No leaks, no blowby, doesn't burn oil. Good Blackstone reports. Just a trashed body. Today I just bought a 2003 7.3 CC, LWB Lariat All blue with Grey leather with a windowed PMR motor that was just replaced 50k ago. New or rebuilt everything- Injectors, Turbo, HPOP, starter, alternator, etc. The guy put in the money to do it right, and was unaware of the early tuners that came with the truck and likes to take out PMR rods. Both truck have heavy duty rebuilt trannies.
As always, I'm on a very tight budget. Time I have, money I don't. Obviously my plan is to use my old Forged longblock and swap over all the newer accessories from the 03 blown motor with some new seals along the way. My dilemma is whether or not to rebuild the longblock, or throw it back together and hope it lasts another 100-200k since everything as is works great.
Thoughts? What should I be replacing that I'm not thinking of. I'm thinking at a minimum replace the valve guide seals. The guy said the motor quit immediately upon windowing so I'm hoping I can flush all the oil stuff. I'll get some pictures up when I can.
