Vacuum pump orientation

Hey guys, I just moved my drivers side battery to the passenger side to free up tons of room on the drivers side. I also deleted the vacuum reservoir and mounted the vacuum pump in a different orientation than factory.

Now when I turn the key on the pump makes a nasty sound, is this because I deleted the reservoir, or do vacuum pumps care how they are oriented? My friend did the same thing in his 6.0 and his pump doesnít sound like mine

I also deleted the ground from the drivers side battery to the drivers side of the block, and installed one going from a drivers side bell housing bolt to the frame. The one on the passenger side of the block is still in place. Is that sufficient or should I add more? I know the 4r100s and 5r110s can be smoked from bad grounds

I do not think the pump cares orientation wise unless it has a drain?
might want to isolate any contact to surrounding components.

these pumps are meant to run on a reservoir otherwise it will run a lot more often ( like a generator supplying a light bulb with power without a battery in the circuit)

when Bulletproof puts an oil cooler where you put the battery they still implement a reservoir although it is the size of a softball vs the OEM catchers mit

Ok, that makes sense. I actually have a vacuum reservoir off of my ALH TDI which is much smaller than the one on the super duties. I may plumb that in
