7.3 illegal in California?

Reading in another thread 7.3's in commercial use will no longer be licensed in California as of next year, (only 2010 trucks or newer allowed). So what about the vacationers? Can we still drive our trucks into California?

Cali owners, what say you?

The change won't affect any vacationers unless they decide they want to move and stay in ca. then they have a problem.

The link below goes over everything in laymens terms all the requirements and exceptions and compliance dates etc.

https://www.ccjdigital.com/carb-to-b...tions-in-2020/

This has been in the works for years, many fleets already have transfer stations all over right outside the CA border. they have some 2010 or newer trucks go to CA and grab freight then drop it at station and their normal trucks tow it cross country etc. All its going to do is raise the price of ALL GOODS and I mean EVERYTHING.

I was stationed there from 2008-2014 and worked civilian from 2014 until 2017 then finally found a gig making the move worth it. You should too. Im an Idaho native and man its been so nice since the move back. no longer paying $400 plus year registration on my 1999, and with a 20% pay cut because of the state taxes and rate I take home more pay still and pay less for quality healthcare, benefits, groceries, fuel, property taxes, utilities etc.

Only affects commercial use?

Not personal?

Read the link I posted. its not just a general blockade of pore 2010 trucks.

https://www.ccjdigital.com/carb-to-b...tions-in-2020/

How in the world would CA just ban all 2010 and older trucks lol. Half of CA is below poverty income so they would all loose their jobs etc.

Well that was the problem, I was thinking of moving there but where I was going was around Tahoe, and retire in a couple years. Now what I could do is go and move to Reno. Maybe the registration is cheaper for cars and truck and hey, Hookers are legal!

This is not for personal vehicles. I read Justin's link. They are looking at trucks that haul stuff and rated @ 14k GVW and higher. My '01 has a GVW of 9900. Unfortunately, this specifically targets Diesel engines.

I agree with one of the comments @ the end of the story - "I love California, but not the people running it."

Supercrddy, or any of you guys know of or have a 7.3, what do you have to have on it? As I understand, there is no smog equipment.

@RollenCoal - You're right, not much on there. There is a Crank Case vent on the driver's side valve cover. Usually, the tech climbs up into the engine bay. As far as I know, he's looking at the turbo, boost tubes/boots, may the waste gate. Basically, making sure the stuff that's supposed to be there, is. I have a K&N Cone filter which has a CARB E.O. # on it. He writes that down on the paper. I have MBRP 4" Exhaust which they don't look at since I have a Non-Catalyst sticker on the bottom side of the hood. They do a snap test where they press the throttle down quickly in succession to see how bad it smokes. There is an opacity / duration limit. But....I've never had a problem. That said, there are SOME counties that don't require SMOG testing. I live is Sacramento County so I "GET" to participate.
