Hey I've got a 2001 f250 2wd auto that's a super cab. Everything is good on it runs and drives but wrecked it and cab is brusied up. I found a 99 f250 that's 4 wd and club cab or whatever the full 4 door ones are called. Can I swap my 7.3 with the 2wd trans into it? The truck I found has a 7.3 in it but the trans is bad. Is this a quick swap and ignore the 4wd part and just use it with 2wd?
You need to change two parts to convert a 4x2 trans into a 4x4, the extension housing and the output shaft.
The extension housing just unbolts and the new one bolts on. The output shaft requires EVERYTHING be removed from inside the trans. Then reassemble the trans using a 4x4 shaft.
To make it fit up to the driveshaft? I don't want to make my trans into a 4wd just use it as a 2wd in the truck. And I'd swap my motor and trans together so they wouldn't have any issues with mounting to motor
Your 2wd transmission will bolt up to the 7.3 but you will need a longer driveshaft.
