This is my 1st diesel truck and it has a block heater when do most start using this and do you just keep it plugged in all the time during cold weather if driving daily? What temps is it reccommended to use? TY

I plug mine in below 40, but since I just put a gpr in this winter and glow plugs last winter I don't plug it in at all, it would be best to get a timer, set to come on about 2-3 hours before you go anywhere if it's setting over night, otherwise you just run up the power bill

If you are needing to ask about block heaters, I presume Carroll county is someplace warm? You probably don't even need it.

I live where cold comes from. I use the block heater, a magnetic pan heater and have on occasion used a tiger torch through a section of exhaust pipe to warm things sufficiently.

Setting a timer to warm things a little if anywhere close to or below freezing certainly won't hurt though.

Don't mind JJ, he lives near Santa, but uses a powerstroke instead of reindeer

hahahaha... Well played Kris.

If you can plug it in, then do it.

I'm just south of you in Va, and if the temps are freezing over nite I'll plug it in and set the timer for 4 hours before I need to fire it up.

Timers are cheap and easy to find this time of year with all the xmas decor out.

I just installed new gpr and gp's last year. I honestly dont need to plug mine in at all. But i plug mine in when it gets a little below 40 or so, on a timer that kicks it on 3 hours before i leave for work. I only run 8 miles to work so having it plugged in even though it doesnt necessarily need it, helps the truck at least get up to a decent running temp.
