96 supercab long bed

Pretty new on here but was wondering if you guys could help out. I’m buying a 96 supercab long bed 7.3 with 65k miles. Truck is super clean aside from a few minor dings, just wondering what to look out for and what to upgrade. I’ve heard a few things about the hpop, but what other weak points does the 7.3 have? And what sort of power can I reasonable push? Forgot to mention it’s an auto trans. Any feedback much appreciated

In stock form they are pretty solid trucks. My 97 is at 205k and still going strong. HJPOPs are stout and generally are not a problem. The biggest thing to look out for would be proper maintenance. For that truck the biggest weak points would be the Twin Traction Beam (TTB) front end that loves to wear bushings (due to the use of stiff negative arch leaf springs) and sag (due to the weight of the PSD) and the E4OD transmission. Many folks choose to do a Dana 60 straight axle swap (and maybe with a Reverse Shackle Kit at the same time). For power mods you can go mild to wild, but be aware that as the power starts going up, the E4OD is going to need some substantial love to be able to reliably put it to the ground (and it's not inexpensive!!!). Cheers!
