38 gallon rear tank
I just completed the 38gallon rear tank conversion. Here’s just a little bit of advice for the F26E conversion.
It was more difficult than I thought. Also, two people make the job easier, but it can be done by one.
The fuel pickup tube is 3/8”. The fuel return is an awkward size, 5/16”. Good luck finding a fitting for that.
To extend my the fuel gauge arm, you need 3/32” welding rod. Look at Harbor Freight or Tractor Supply.
I also did the vent mod where I removed the rollover valve and replaced it with a 5/8” barb to 3/4” MIP 90 degree fitting. Then I knocked out the inner pipe of the filler neck.
If you do the filler neck vent mod you may need to but longer bolts to put the tank back in place.
I also did the “hutch” mod where I extended the return line and pointed it about a foot away from the pickup tube. The idea it that this truck returns a lot of fuel back to the tank and diesel fuel typically foams, so you don’t want air in your fuel. Therefor you relocate the return line.
Filled it up. Took 39 gallons. Didn’t leak.
