1989 7.3 very hard to start

I just replaced the golw plugs and controller. It just spins over and tries to start now and then. I don't know how many miles is on it. Once it starts it will start again no problem. it runs slightly rough but it seems to be firing on all cylinders.

Could the injectors need replacing? Any suggestions?

sound slike a leak in the fuel system and it loses its prime while setting.
I had a 7.3 IDI that had a small tear in a oring on the return line at the pump and it would cause nasty hard starts. Crank and cranl untill builds prime

i agree , need to run a fuel pressure test cold and see how long it takes to build up enough pressure to fire , if it runs ok after it starts then injection pump should be fine, just may be a leak down or even base pump pressure issue
