exhaust fluid system failure

While driving last night this message came up on my dash. Is this a specific message for a specific problem or is it a general message that could be any number of things? the reason I am asking because my closest dealer is not my preferred place to do business. If it needs some diagnostics I will drive further for a better place at 50 mph.

If you have a code reader I'd start there. It could be something simple like needing a new pump which you could do yourself. Without the code though I'm not really sure. I know there are other messages though like if the heater in the fluid fails it states that it has. (I got that message and decided to just not deal with it lol)

I pulled up a code p218f, which says it is a def injector that is bad or clogged.

Start with the line that runs from tank down pass frame rail may be pinched or the clip just came off of the injector, when the def gets a breath of air its clogging. It's usually a simple repair as long as you dont make it to the "engine idled" message you won't need the reset procedure, repair prior to avoid a headache

Seems there is at least one other thread for this. It is probably something you could do yourself assuming it plays nice and comes out. https://www.powerstroke.org/forum/6-...code-help.html
