Tuning prices

Is it just me or is the price of tuning and programmers seem crazy? 1300 dollars for an ezlynk and tunes. I remember when I thought 3 or 400 was high for this stuff.

How about when they said their product was better and their tuning was even worse?? Still issues abound every day...

Right, I'm fine with 3 or 400 for it. But 800+ is getting nuts. I know it takes time to make the tunes, just seems crazy, tuning 5-10 years ago has double or even tripled since then.

You can thank the idiots that tune their trucks and then get popped by the law and blame the tuners. 10yrs ago we were just starting to see emissions off tuning. Before that no one cared. You have to pay to play.

I have also said this on this forum PLENTY of times before. Show me any other platform where $700-1500 nets a 200hp+ gain let alone the 400ftlbs+ and only takes 15min to install. That's cheap in every other area of motorsports.

In general no one can argue that point.

The problem becomes the products have been "Beta tested" yet continue to yield WAY too may issues later on. Common issues like the wifi drops off.....WTH?? That's a main selling point of the product that renders it useless when not functioning.

Then you discover using the product is inducing damage and you must wait till the issue is "fixed" to run the max tuning profiles. WTH...wait......it's all about profit....then the light comes on, your truck is being used as a guinea pig.

Give them another 3 years.....tuning and devices will be pretty solid if the GOV stays away.

Kinda see your point, but its still an OPTIONAL decision. No one is forcing a tuner on anyone. The other HUGE thing to think about is location of tuning. It makes a HUGE difference. A tune written by TSD in Texas will net COMPLETLY different results say up here in the foothills of WA state (using this as an example as I tested Chris's tunes on my 6.0, 6.4, and this 6.7).

I have also said this before on here....There is no such thing as a CUSTOM tune if the vehicle is NOT being live tuned period. Its still a generic file that gets modified based on what testing they have to go off of. There are too many companies making to many parts for all tuners to be dead on with all tunes. Hell we see an issue with something as simple as an AFE system vs a NL4" system or even difference from a 4" to 5" NL intake system. All of these parameters have to be accounted for and adapted to elevation, location, and then you still have the real world application unknowns.

As far as the EZ Lynk stuff. I cant speak to the loss of wifi or cloud crap. All of these tuners have to adapt constantly. Unfortunately the only real thing we hear about is the HP gain. I stuck with my Spartan (now Patriot) that I had on my 6.4 for this 6.7 and have had 0 issues period with it. It also has all of their researched parameters for A/M parts built in to the OST update so no longer have to go to them for "custom" tuning when new parts are added. However that WAS an update. We are dealing with a system that is more of an operating system now. There will be glitches and patches.

Its not as easy as it used to be. Hell look at the new L5P Dmax….$5k dollars to tune!! Look at the 2017+ Super Duty's and the TCM's that are causing so many shifting issues. The manufactures add a whole different level to this. No platform will be perfect out of the box....unless you want something like an Edge tuner and DPF on tunes.

With Uncle Sam going after vendors and tune writers I would expect the trend toward higher and higher prices to continue.
The "I agree this is for off road use only" is only going to protect them for so long. The Govt will say that they "knew" their product would be used in on road vehicles and go after them any way. They may win in court, but at what cost. The Govt knows they can defeat them by dragging into court and forcing them to defend them selves. Only the Lawyers win.

Not trying to get off on a political path but this ^^^ is also being directly applied by the anti-gunners in this country now. We are dealing with a bill up here in WA that is so outrageous and is written that the entire proposition if voted in can not be challenged in entirety. Every point has to be challenged individually. Perfect way to bankrupt the pro 2A organizations that will try to fight it. I guess being a Judge or lawyer in this country is pretty great job security now.

Probably supply and demand. There was also once a time when you could get the newest cell phone for $5 (with a contract) but now they are >$700. Televisions have gone the other way though.
The more I look at it, I think that when the time comes I will take my truck to a dyno shop. There are way too many variables for a "custom" emailed tune. No two factory heads will flow the same. No 2 injectors flow the same (unless new maybe)..... I'm sure the list goes on.
@Dirtball47 I see what you are saying, but that is like the gubberment coming down and saying no car can be built to go more than 80mph because that is the max speed limit. That may be coming too....
