Yeah contemplating that. Mike suggested an FTE resonator, however other have said it is not a fix. If it's as simple as that, then I will gladly throw on a muffler or a resonator instead of screwing with turbo tuning. Any thoughts?

Through Christ all things are possible.

I have an aFe muffler on my exhaust. Only dampened the exterior sound a little compared to being straight piped. Very little interior drone though. Plenty of mufflers to choose from. The bigger they are, the more the sound will be dampened. You could throw on a resonator with a muffler to get it as quiet as possible without putting the DPF back on.

2012 F-250 XLT, CC, SB, deleted with H&S tunes, 4" aFe exhaust, No Limit EGR delete kit, H&S CCV kit.
Pulls a 2014 Keystone Outback 301BQ.

An open-core muffler will not remove the hissing sound. I have a 2015 with the 4/5" Pro Flo exhaust with muffler. Deleted with X4 custom tunes by Midwest Diesel. My truck hisses loudly at idle. I am not complaining in the least, as I expected to hear turbo hissing and I like it. Just saying that an open-core muffler will not eliminate the hissing. Possibly dampen it some, but definitely not eliminate it.

I also have strong diesel smells at idle, but that is hardly unexpected from a diesel engine with no emission controls.

I have a 2015 dpf delete/egr block off, 5 inch flo-pro straight pipe. I wasnt a fan of the screaming exhaust note and was looking for something deeper and queter. I installed the Flowmaster Hushpower muffler. This made a HUGE difference! Killed 90% of the hair dryer noise and is only slightly louder than stock. You get the deeper tones as you go through the RPM's. If you're looking to subdue the hair dryer, this is the fix.

If you'll read the post before that one you'll see that I said mine is deep and doesn't have the hair dryer noise. However now it does with the spartan tuning because they keep the vanes closed.

I have a FloPro 5" Straight piped and it barely hisses at idle it's a deeper tone. There's a youtube video around here somewhere with it.
