PLEASE HELP! 2015 Deleted and throwing codes/reducing power
Hey all, my buddy has a 2015 dually F-350 that we deleted this weekend. I'd recommended he call Mike at NoLimit who set me up with my kit, but he had a brain fart and ended up calling another shop (thinking it was Mike). The parts seemed legit (S&B intake, flow-pro down-pipe back exhaust, bully-dog tuner) and the price was in the ball park so he went with it.
Anyway, we did the delete this weekend and all seemed to go well. The tuner programmed without issue (definitely indicating a DPF delete tune) and the truck started and idled normally. Drove around the block (less than a mile) and it seemed fine. Went for a longer drive after that and the truck threw a code and indicated "reducing engine power". Pulled the code with the tuner (looks and acts much like my Minimax). Code was P259F which seems to indicate an over-boost condition. The truck/tuner was reporting 30-31psi under full load (seems a bit high for my 2012, but not sure about a 2015). We cleared the code and drove home.
Later that evening we went for another ride, and the truck threw the code 3-4 times... kind of a scary prospect to be on the freeway and suddenly having no power. We removed the tune, and re-flashed it and it got us home... thought that might have fixed it, but it's still doing it. It doesn't seem to be related to full throttle either. When it happened 3-4 times on the highway he was totally babying it just trying to get off the freeway and it would still throw the code.
Searching seems to indicate this is a fairly common problem with the 2015's, but he's had his for almost a year and it's been totally fine. Seems like WAY too big a coincidence to suddenly act up within minutes of doing the delete.
Anybody have any experience with this? Any thoughts on a fix? He said that he was told to not attempt to update the tune on the BullyDog tuner either since they have some sort of system to detect if you're in the USA.
He's pretty desperate since we're supposed to tow our trailers out to Glamis this coming weekend and he doesn't feel like he can trust the truck right now.
Appreciate any thoughts or help!
