anyone try clone vcmII /ids?

I keep seeing clone vcm2 modules on fleabag and on internet and wonder if anyone has tried one.
What ids features work and what don't is of particular interest.
I would love to do as much diagnosis and repair myself as possible, call me weird if you wish but I just do.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I bought a Chinese knock off and never ended up getting the stupid thing working. I couldn't get the software to function so I gave up. I need to sit down and try to get it going one day. Trying to get someone to troubleshoot the issue over email when they can't speak English wasn't working out for me. As of right now it's a $300 paperweight

I'd love to save the $$$ but slowly realizing I might as well pony up for a real vcm2 and subscription to IDS.
My google ninja'ing reveals people saying some clones are fine some saying all clones are crap and some saying they have found clone vcm's that will ready just fine but after erasing the ecu won't program it.
Of course internet opinions are like a**holes everyone has got one ...
Lack of first hand experience is not giving me a warm fuzzy for the clones.

HighHP if you get that going i'm sure i'm not the only one on here that'd LOVE to hear about it.

the clones are really hit and miss, most do not work at all.

something to consider is the IDS program actually registers the computer its installed too now rather the the VCM serial number. So even with a cheap clone vcm your still stuck with the subscription to the IDS. Without it the functions are severely limited.

The VCMIIs are quite a bit cheaper then the original VCMs where. They are worth the cash if you use it which the average user may not find enough use to justify the cost

Well I am going to chime in with my experiences,
I have 2 clone sets. One is hard wire and the other has the
wireless connection.

The key when installing the clone software is the patch file.
You must run the patch before you try the app the first time.
If you don't you will have to dig out all it parts that are buried
in the system you installed it on.

The hard wire connections on both work just fine however the wireless
connection was a PITA and I was not able to get it to work. Also
the software that came with that clone was messed up somewhere
and would not connect even hardwired. Both units work on the first
copy of IDS I got. I will be testing the clone with a REAL IDS that I have.
I picked up the older disks on Fleabay. They are the 2009 issue ones.
We will see.

All in all I am happy with both units when used with the older software.
BTW the reason for the 2 unit is I was testing a new supplier in China.
They did well and my other supplier is back working again so if I do buy
for people I can go back that route to get new units if I need/want any.

Sean

EDIT : Sorry about digging up an old thread.

I have a clone that works. The software is a bit of a hassle to install, but I picked up a cheap laptop on Craigslist to dedicate to the job.

Grab a pick and shovel and dig in.

If your not up on all the acronyms.
IDS is (Integrated Diagnostic System) <<< The software
VCM or VCM2 is (Vehicle Commutations Module) Ver 1 or Ver 2
Then lastly the VMM (Vehicle Measurement Module) <<< Lab scope

I still have not made any new attempts to get the wifi connection working
but in doing some other searching I think I may have the answerI need.
Looks like I missed a step.

I just need to setup a power supply so I can play with options and not
be out in the truck. It's cold and wet out and the truck only has two cup holders.

BTW sort of a off question. But anyone know what you need to do
to review old saved sessions that have not been closed yet?
That is without the truck to plug into.

Thanks

EDIT : Well I had some time to myself and got to do some looking into
how to do things with the IDS. I found that you don't need the VCM attached
to the laptop to review any stored data/scans. I also got the print function
working. Now if only I can get the Wifi connection to work. BTW the printing
problem was a grumpy printer driver. Reinstalled a fresh copy and BINGO.
