I would imagine a shallow mount 8" would fit has anyone taken the stock sub out of the box?

That's what I'm hoping for. I'd like to just take the stock unit out and drop in an 8" shallow mount JLAudio unit or something similar.

From what I can gather, the problem with that will be whether or not the stock amp is powerful enough to properly drive the new sub. I suspect it isn't based on what the info I've been able to find.

The MicroSub and a seperate dedicated mono amp like Lightning546 suggested is the best way to go from what I can tell, but the other option I've looked at is to simply replace the stock sub with a small sealed and powered unit. That would be much simpler and cheaper, easier to properly setup/tune, and probably suit my needs just fine.

I'm hoping to maybe have a look at it this weekend if the weather cooperates, but taking out two car seats and the entire rear seat is big job just take to a look.

If the factory head unit had a seperate subwoofer gain control the system would sound better. I had the audiophile system and a kenwood headunit in my 6.4 and having the ability to adjust the sub without exceeding the cheep door speakers limitations make a large difference.
