Electric Viking V400 SS Horn Install Problem

I mounted a set of Viking Trumpet Horns on my 16 F350. Each horn has its own - and + wires. The instructions say I can wire the 2 pos together (same for the neg) then connect them to the factory horn plug. After doing so, only one trumpet worked. Double checked all wiring and same result. I than ran both wire direct to battery and they both worked. Retried the factory plug and only one worked. Factory plug puts out 12 volts. Any suggestions?

Get a relay to energize the horns with battery voltage. Use the truck horn plug to energize the relay.

The lights in this diagram will be the horns and the switch will be the horn plug. Pay attention to the numbers on the diagram and match your connections to the numbers on the relay you install.

get a pigtail for the relay it makes wiring easier

do a sound clip of those horns, please

I could never find electric trumpets that worked well on my boat I went with a small instant on compressor / dual trumpet setup

i suggest tipping the trumpets down and use the weather shield if they have them to keep moisture at bay ( if these are anything like standard electric trumpets)

Tried relay...

OK guy's, I bought a 12 volt / 30 amp relay and installed it as to your diagram and still only one trumpet sounds off. This weekend I will strip it down, test both horns again, and reinstall. Frustrating on something this simple. I really want to use the factory horn setup and not with a secondary horn button.

Figured it out...

Well, after all of that, it turns out to be the horns, even though they came with rubber mounting gaskets the mounting bolts were grounding out the one horn. So I eliminated the steel bolts for nylon, eliminated the relay, and wired it directly to the factory worn wire and works like a charm. Thanks for a quick response and your help. 8 days on another site and 97 Looks and not one reply. You know where I'll be posting.

THANKS POWERSTROKE
