Yes, it does this. It is not a mystery. You can open the doors and push the on/off button and the radio will turn on with out ignition key. Not sure what the limit is before it times out. I use the feature at times when I go out to truck to program a destination into the NAV. It is in the owner's manual but not sure where.
You can also play the radio for up to 30 minutes after you turn the key off and remove it as long as you do not open the door.
