Question For those who run the Gearhead SRL+ tune.....a question(s)

I've been running IDP tunes for the last couple of years since I've had my truck (05' F250 w/ ARP studs). I mostly run the towing tune, but sometimes I will run their street tune when I'm not towing anything. It's got good power, and give a little more MPG. The shifts are a little soft, but other than that I like it. The X-street tune is way to harsh....makes awesome power...just insane, but it shifts hard as hell, and for daily driving..it's annoying.

I contacted Matt at Gearhead tuning, and he recommended the SRL+ tune as a daily driver tune for me.

Before I pull the trigger...I'm just wondering how many other people are running this tune...and how you like it. Is it a good daily driver tune, or is it pretty harsh with the light switch type throttle when you get on it? I'm just wondering if it's any better than the Street tune from IDP.

How is gearheads response time if there is an issue with the tune that I need adjusted? IDP made a few adjustments for me on my tunes free of change, and had the tune files back to me the day after I emailed them.

Any info on the SRL+ tune, and Gearhead in general would be great! Thanks!!

I have had the srl+ for over a year. Was my 1st tune, very very impressive.
The only tune I have to compare with is the Php140x with the atlas 80 ficm tune. The srl+ makes more power, earlier in the pedal, pulls harder but does run hotter all the way up to redline. The truck feels lighter with the srl+, the low and mid range torque is incredible. The smoke output is very light and manageable. The shifting is very firm and gets harder the further down the pedal goes. I have had a little flaring but never asked for a revision. The 140x has harder shifts, and are more precise and predictable. I do have to drive lighter on the pedal to keep the passengers from feeling the shifts. I switch between the 2 tunes, but currently running the php 140x which compliments the ficm tunes.

I have ran IDPs street tune in the past as I was drawn to it for the fact they advertised it could tow 10k, so I thought it would be a perfect do it all tune. However I did not like the shifting one bit although the power was pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Ended up swapping back to Gearhead after a week.

I used Gearheads 8K Tow as a daily prior to that, but after switching back from IDP I contacted them regarding making and SRL file with some fuel pulled and Iíve used that as a daily and to tow. SRL in general is just miles better than IDPs street tune, shifting, power wise, smoke, drivability.

As well Gearhead has awesome customer service, very willing to work with you to get what you want out of the tuning. Not to mention I just recently swapped to non VGT and they nailed the tunes first try didnít have to get any revisions.

Iíve been running Gearheads SRLXX for many years. Tried a lot of different tunes but this one I like the best so I havenít changed it for years. I donít know the difference between the SRL+ and the SRLXX. That would be a question for Matt.

Matt has a history of being hit or miss with email responsiveness
I did not like his shifting on the SRL+ but it was way better than IDP He tweaked them once but i still did not like the morning slam shift
i finally went to PHP for their tunes and never looked back but I can no longer recommend them since they bowed out of the public arena
and I have no idea how buying from a third party is

Both of my 6.0's at one point had IDP tunes (before Gearhead) and I did not like them on either truck. Always ran the SRL+ and was always spot on, never looked back or changed.

He means PHP bowed out of public offerings. Not Gearhead.

SRL+ here and it stays on my truck always. I have more than a " G " note invested in tunes that I haven't sent to the bin yet .It is my daily driver and is the most consistent tune I've tried . The only tune I would try next mite be SPD but I can't get any real feedback on it . Many people swear by it but until I can get more than " it's the greatest " or " awesome " I'm not jumping in .
My truck is an 04' late build with a KC2 ( based on a 04' 13 blade ) , 4" exhaust with a stock cat ( 4" in and out ) with stock injectorsand an AIRAID filter set up .
This thing is a really nice daily . I tow with it up to 5000 lbs ( boats etc. ) . The shifting is the best I've tried , consistent and smooth but firm . The only thing it doesn't like is a huge tire spin from a standing start , it will find neutral going into third . I've only had that happen twice but I also don't drive my truck like that ( I was fooling around ) .
If I were to make any changes to SRL+ , I would like to be able to unlock the TC with the tow haul switch on the fly . Sometimes itwill lug and not come out soon enough on a hill until you drop too much speed or apply a bunch of pedal and make it downshift .
I don't ( can't ) run anymore FICM tuning than ECO ( Matt's suggestion ) , A40 and up are just too hot and smoky .
Hope this helps .

SRL+ is my daily tune, and i have about 30,000 miles on it...but, I almost gave up on it!

When I first loaded it didn't run worth a damn, constant slam shifting, started super hard and wasn't consistent. I loaded the 8K tow tune for a while and decided to give the SRL+ another try....it was night and day difference.

I have discovered that when some people go from stock to the SRL+(and other race tunes) from stock that sometimes it never adapts....mine did this..but from the tow tune to srl+ it was great.

I also have the SRL EXTREME but do not use it..

I drove my SRL+ from Houston TX to Orlando and back in a weekend several times and drive to Colorado and back to Houston frequently...and even did a few trips to Washington dc and back to Houston....all on the SRL+..

I thoroughly trust this tune...however, i am no hot rodder. i drive like a grandpa..
