How far can I go before I need studs???

Ok guys, I searched but could not find the answer to this. Hope you guys can tell me. How far can I go before I need to do head gasket and studs???

Recently did HPOP, Oil Cooler, EGR Delete, 4" non cat exhaust and SCTX4. Truck is running like a raped ape and is asking for more!!! LOL!!!

I want to get some PHP tunes for my X4 but I dont want to go past the point of kaboom with the head gaskets.

So what is the limit???

Thanks guys!!!

Unless you've got a s#!+ load of money to dump in the truck right now I'd keep what you've got until you need HGs. If you're driving it like you stole it most likely it's not a question of "IF" you're going to need them, it's a question of "WHEN".

Wouldn't that be a detuned factory tune?

Is there a specific stud or brand of stud that should be used now that I'm tuning the truck for more HP? I don't want to blow a head gasket and will be doing some upgrades this weekend, what head studs should I get that will prove to be more reliable/stronger than the stock?

For me there is only brand. ARP, Match the studs to your HP goals.

ARP 625s are supposedly the best but they'll cost you

Are you taking the heads off and having them checked or just swapping the bolts for studs?

The EGR does to your engine what smoking does to your lungs.

Remember you can always improve on a design until the EPA gets involved.

"Need" is relative term... Some of these trucks go their whole lifetime with the factory head bolts. Some of them didn't make it past the first few oil changes. It all depends on the truck and your right foot controlling the skinny pedal Studs are not a need, however, they do make the truck that much more reliable.

If I were in your shoes, like @kcoyner said, drive the thing and keep an eye on your engine parameters for now. While you're doing that, start putting $$ away in your rainy day fund for when you actually NEED HG's and stud it then!

ARP Head Studs are simply the best.

ARP 2000s are good, 625s are better.

625s are only required if your going balls to the walls!!!
