Sorry, you may already know this... You need to let the trans adaptive learning do its thing for a while (100 miles). Usually smooths out some but tunes will make the trans shift quicker and firmer. But the PHP tune should shift great and they may be able to tweak it for you if need be.

Thanks, I know about the adaptive learn but I guess I didn't expect it to be this harsh. Hopefully it tames out soon.....while I wait for the PHP sale of course!

What do you think Charlie would you shutoff OD in tow haul or should I keep it in? Also I know this had been asked a lot lately but with ficm tune Econ or atlas 40? Sound like Econ is the way to go as far as egt management when towing.
Well... You can tow all day every day at 1200-1300 as long as you can keep your EOT and ECT down. When the loads gets really heavy these trucks will struggle with the 55-65mph range. Because you are usually either in OD at 1600-1800rpms (which is too low) or you drop down out of OD and end up around 2300-2500 rpms which can get annoying while towing on flat ground for hours at a time.

IMO idealy on flat ground with a REALLY heavy load you would want to be around 2000-2200 rpms... basically right in the middle of those two gears. that means doing 50-55 in 5th for 70-75 in OD (I personally don't like towing earlly heavy above 70mph, just personal safety preference)

Was that as clear as mud?
I think I found the clarity in the mud? So basically deal with OD drive and go faster or slower and just not worry about 1050 to 1100 egts while cruising as long as the Eot and Ect are staying in a normal range.
Got it!!

Putting the slightest tune on a 7.3 was night and day. Php is by far the expert tuners, followed by DP tuner as for experiance. Then maybe IDP but I've never been impressed by their tunes or resume. The rest are experimental, meaning they just bought software and increased the timing button and Just make adjustments based on customer feedback (motors blown). Total joke enterprise, stick with php. I tow a flatbed with big off road car that combo weighs 19k and I consider that light. My full up camper hauler combo weighs 28k and that's pushing every limit of my truck but I've hauled the combo from AK to DC. I'm to lazy to switch tunes so I always just run the heavy tow. If I wanted to drag race I'd become Asian and buy a civic. But I don't drag race so the heavy tow works great. I tried to stack with atlas 40 and egts got too high. I switched back to Eco fcim tune. Still running great! I will buy an 18 f450 and be done with the 6.0, but that will be another year. I spent a lot of time and money bulletproofing my 6.0 and it has never let me down and always performed way passed the recommended limits. Go php tow tune, I'd be comfortable with 40hp with 19k combined
In the 6.0 world IDP has the most experience, Quick Tricks, Gearhead, PHP and Truck source diesel.

I wouldnt run DP Tuner in anything. Jody does nothing but jack up injection timing and hope for the best.

Good info, keeping this one on the watch list. Have a PHP FICM tuner running in my 6.0 right now and have been looking at a tow and daily driver tune from Bill as well.
