What do you think Charlie would you shutoff OD in tow haul or should I keep it in? Also I know this had been asked a lot lately but with ficm tune Econ or atlas 40? Sound like Econ is the way to go as far as egt management when towing.
Last time I towed DC to Vegas on I40, all was fine but in new Mex the elevation was 5k for the first 3/4 of the state and that caused me to battle egts. I set my foot pressure to 1250 egt and it got me 60mph(28k) and I ran that straight for 8 hours. Truck handled it fine. I was the slow one on the freeway, almost dangerous slow at 60. Soon as the elevation dropped a few 1000 feet my 1250 egt soon got me back to 75mph and I let off and back to
Normal 950ish to hold

You use the 40 heavy tow by php or the 25 extreme heavy tow tune combined with Econ ficm tune?

I just towed 3500 miles, FL to Mich UP with PHP's Atlas 40, 65hp tow and ECM rollback. I went across the scales at 16.9k lbs., EGT's never went over 1100 and I averaged 12.5 mpg for the trip @ 65 mph. I have tried several other popular tuners and none work as well overall as Bill's. I run the 80hp DD or the 140x when I am not towing.

I would be on board for some custom tunes. I have been discussing this with Corey CNC Fab.

I just ordered a Hydra! The ball is punted and in PHP's court for custom tunes. What about an org deal Bill/Jay?

And a KC-TP38r yesterday. Wait until she sees the next cc statement. I better take her out to dinner tonight. Ha ha ha

I just loaded the SCT canned 65 hp tow tune with trans tuning. Meh, power is great but the trans shifting is too firm unloaded around town. Is it safe to say that it is what it is with the canned tune & a PHP tune will be an improvement in the transmission tuning department?

Well... You can tow all day every day at 1200-1300 as long as you can keep your EOT and ECT down. When the loads gets really heavy these trucks will struggle with the 55-65mph range. Because you are usually either in OD at 1600-1800rpms (which is too low) or you drop down out of OD and end up around 2300-2500 rpms which can get annoying while towing on flat ground for hours at a time.

IMO idealy on flat ground with a REALLY heavy load you would want to be around 2000-2200 rpms... basically right in the middle of those two gears. that means doing 50-55 in 5th for 70-75 in OD (I personally don't like towing earlly heavy above 70mph, just personal safety preference)

Was that as clear as mud?
