Sub'd!
I wonder if my mishi rad is contributing also to my warmer trans temps, being I have not ran this new trans behind any other radiator. May make sense if the internal cooler is smaller than factory.
I'm in the same predicament as you, with my "upgraded" radiator brining warmer temps.
I went down the same path as the OP. Replaced water pump and tstat trying to chase/correct a problem where there wasn't a problem lol. As you can see, I've had this setup in 2 trucks now (same parts, different trucks) and the problem has followed persistently, and when going back to a factory rad/ic in the other truck, the issue went away. So I think we all know the answer.
But I am intrigued by the internal trans cooler size, I even went to a 31 row cooler to mitigate that issue with no luck. Did you see higher trans temps after the swap?

I've been meaning to come back and comment on trans temps.
I never noticed an increase in trans temps pulling my boat, even with high coolant & oil temps. As I recall they stayed in the 165 - 170 range.

It doesn't mske sense why mish would design the radiator to be smaller. It's good to hear that I'm not the only one that is having serious temp and fitment issues...

Their core is thicker, but it doesn't have the flanges the stock design does.

I've read a couple statements that I think make sense. Effectively, the lack of flanges allows air to escape out the sides pre-radiator and to get sucked in post radiator before the fan. This wont prevent all air going through, but I'd guess you are losing 1/5th-1/4th of the airstream that way. It's a significant amount of air to lose, especially if you have an aftermarket inter cooler as well.

In my opinion it's a huge design oversight, but hindsight is 20/20 i guess. Perhaps they could have done more testing to identify this as a problem before putting the product out to market. They'd do well to pull the product temporarily, redesign it with the flanges, and put it back out to market. I'd also suggest they offer to retrofit any older radiators with the flanges, but that would cost them a fair sum of money in shipping.

@Mishimoto I think you guys should hop in here to discuss what is able to be done for some of us having these issues with your "upgraded" equipment.

Many of us purchased this equipment based on your claims of cooler operating temperatures, when in fact through equipment has provided the exact opposite. Below is your description I pulled directly from your website advertising these claims. As you can see between a few threads here lately, these claims appear to be false. Taking care of those customers who were duped by these claims seems like a no brainer to me. Many of us depend on these trucks operating optimally, which is ultimately what led us to your equipment in the first place. However that has not been the case and we were falsely advertised to

Features a two-row, 1.42" thick brazed aluminum core, providing ideal fluid temperatures during all driving conditions

Increased fluid capacity and superior heat dissipation

Perfect upgrade to the factory plastic end tank radiator

Ideal for trucks transporting heavy loads, towing, and/or driving in extreme environments

Includes Magnetic Drain Plug to capture any metallic debris/fragments in your cooling system

See if you can get a rad shop to weld some flanges onto the edges to see if that helps?

OP great write up! Looks like there is finally a descent performance radiator for us! I returned mine Mishimoto the second it showed up due to the trans cooler restrictions. Talk to any performance shop about a built 5r and they will tell you how tight the pressure tolerances are, can't believe more people haven't smoked their trans with the Mishimoto. Great write up and good looking radiator. I will give it a try if my BPD one ever fails (I won't hold my breath lol)

I'm curious to know how many transmissions that you know of are toast because of a Mishimoto Radiator.

I don't know of any, I don't attempt to keep track. All I know is I asked the techs at NADP and they told me not to even run the aux trans filter I had purchased that went in the trans cooler lines because they said the 5r pump was very sensitive. So when I seen the tiny pinholes in the misho I steered clear. Again, like I said in original post, "surprised" we haven't heard of some. I know jack about trans, just what I got from NADP.
