Purchasing question

Hello, new here.

I have the opportunity to purchase a 2003 6.0 excursion limited with 59k miles on it. One owner, spent its life driving 4K miles a year between Toronto and Florida. Original window sticker and ever service record itís ever had. I have never seen a 15 year old vehicle as clean as this. The original plastic protector covers are on all the wood trim, under the floor mats, on the radio etc. Loaded without sunroof.

Primary use would be a daily driver/family hauler with occasional towing duties.

I truly know very little about the 6.0 powerstroke. I have read the horror stories and also many success stories about them.

Asking price is $21,9

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you,

Mike

Sounds like a great find! Not many left in good original condition. The only downside will be that you will still have to address all of the same 6.0 issues that we have all had. Search around the forum here for "bulletproof 6.0".

You might have good life left out of it, but historically the engines that were driven lightly are a ticking time bomb. If you are ok with having about $6k set aside for when it happens, then I say go for it. I love my Ex and couldn't be happier with it.

I forgot to mention, but even in top condition 21,9 seems ridiculous. If it already had reputable engine work then ok, but seems high.

For almost 22k you can buy something half that price and buy extra spare engine from the stealership for backup and still come out with money for goodies to bolt on. I would take that much and invest in 6.7 than a 6.0

They don't make 6.7 Excursions.

I don't think $22k is TOO far out for a 4wd Excursion Limited with 60k on the clock. $18k would be more realistic though. A 2wd should probably be more like $12-$14k in that condition. They don't make 'em anymore or anything similar, so an owner that's willing to wait around a little, can get pretty much what they want for it.

As far as issues with the low mileage and rare use, assuming it has been properly maintained, the only things that would concern me would be:
The turbo - possibly seized unison ring. Easily fixed or replaced.
The coolant - Probably still Ford Gold and 15 years old.
The oil temp to coolant temp delta - relates to the previous item
The fuel system - Diesel sitting in a tank for long periods can grow algae. Easily fixed with some biodiesel and a couple of filter changes.

Don't fall fot the "it needs bulletproofed right away" line. I bought my 05 with 141k on it, never tuned, original exhaust, unknown maintenance. It has 157K on now and all I've done was change the coolant, back flush the oil cooler, replaced the unison ring in the turbo, replace tie rod ends and shocks. I drive it and pull a stock trailer with it. If it blows the head gaskets I'll fix it then. I'm not taking apart a perfectly good engine to "make it better"

Like G8torFord said, they don't make em anymore so if you like it make an offer on it.

Let me rephrase. Ford doesn't make the Excursions anymore and anyone selling a 6.7 Excursion is 1) not selling it for $22k and 2) they are mating a minimum 13 year old wrecked Excursion rear half to the newer truck front end.

But those are cool.

If you can afford it go for it. Just bought this 2003 with 6l a few weeks ago. 1 owner and 96 maintenance reports on carfax. Never wrecked, all original and only 295000 miles.
