05X EB 4x4 - Slow Build

Hey everyone,

Can't post pictures yet, but there is one in my garage.

I have a new to me 2005 Excursion Eddie Bauer 4x4. It has an Air Lift lift with on board compressor in the rear. XD Hoss 16x8 wheels.

Regarding the suspension, I am trying to figure out whats been done to it. It has 305/70r16 wheels on it - the front measures ground to fender 39-5/8" and the rear set at 5 PSI is 42-1/2". Is this an indication of a V/B code swap and some added tire height?

The first round of mods is a OBDLink LX with a spare phone running Torque Pro on a dedicated power circuit and tasker, then a 3 gauge A pillar from Max Tow with Boost/EGT/Fuel Pressure.

Next will be the blue spring mod, and EGR delete.

Then mostly likely straight pipe exhaust and an Atlas 40 or 80 FICM tune.

Then a small lift and 35s.

That's the plan anyways -

Looking forward to learning a ton here.

Later!

Got my torquepro setup. Got up to running temps and maintained 70 mph.

Start up, idled until 190 oil/coolant temp.
VGT duty cycle stayed right at 85% at low idle.
Crusing between 65-70 VGT is around 51%.
WOT to 80~ I see as low as 34% VGT.
Boost never goes above 10.3 on normal acceleration, on WOT I see it spike to around 24 psi, but is around 21 psi.

While cruising at 65-70, coolant temp would rise 200, then drop to 186. Rinse and repeat.
Oil temp was at lowest 194, and got as high as 212.
The largest delta I seen was 22 degrees. I understand it shoud only be 15?

Insight?

Thanks.

Oh also, fuel pump duty cycle was 100% at all times idle or WOT. This seemed odd to me.

Your thermostat might be beginning to stick
The 15F delta applies only when your doing 65MPH (or 1900 RPMs in OD with TQ locked) on flat ground no load

The fuel pump is on or off so that seems normal

For the suspension, I'll take some measurements next time I'm with my excursion hopefully I haven't stripped it down far enough to make a huge difference.

The EGR does to your engine what smoking does to your lungs.

Remember you can always improve on a design until the EPA gets involved.

Thanks for the response, much appreciated.

I was mainly doing 70 on hilly terrain, not much flat ground around here. Ill try to do a test at 65 on flat ground.

What temp is the oem thermostat? Mine is def cycling, but maybe just not at the right temps.

My truck was purchased at sea level and I'm around 7500 ft, is there any merit in doing a computer relearn?

Thanks,

Patrick

190F is the OEM you can also get aftermarket ones that are cooler or warmer.

Doubt it the truck should know when it's at altitude and when it's not.

I've tried searching, but can't find anything definitive - 2005 Excursions come with the 2004 MY Engine, any truth to this? Does that also apply to accessories i.e. FICM, Turbo, etc?
I thought I read this somewhere, but now am not certain.

Depends on when it was built the 05 excursion wasn't updated like the super dutys and received the left over parts from them it.

See if you can get an OASIS it'll tell you everything that was done to it by Ford.
