Water in Fuel(WIF) Sensor

Hey all,

Have a sensor light on in my 05 Excursion 6.0. Draining the water separator doesn't help, new filters didn't help and my SCT X4 is showing no codes to clear. Looking to replace the sensor now. Anyone have an opinion on OEM vs non-OEM WIF sensors? Any issues or concerns with quality of a Duralast or other replacement sensor?

Your Excursion may have the older style HFCM, which has a fuel heater that often corrodes and trips the circuit for WIF. I had a similar issue on my 03 F350 - I replaced the HFCM cover with the updated style and purchased the updated wiring harness. Both items were available from new OEM from eBay.

Interesting. I’ll take a look and see if I have the same setup. Thanks

Update... no one at SCT could figure it out. It’s definitely not a legit WIF code or issue. I returned my X4 and ordered a new one from gearhead(was buying some tunes anyway and got a discount with the device 🙂 ) Was hoping it was a bad device. Sadly, I still get the light when running the canned tunes from SCT BUT not with the custom tunes from gearhead! Guess I’ll just run with those
