Head replacement with KDD

Since my last thread (https://www.powerstroke.org/forum/6-...r-removal.html) about the cracked head on my truck was more targeted toward replacing the injector cup and that didnt work out, i figured i would start another to document my experiences with replacing the heads with new ones from Kill Devil Diesel. I got Jared to quote the heads, top end gasket set with HG's and revised pushrods back in May, i just completed the purchase this morning. i dont know what the lead time is as of right now, but i have another truck to drive, so im not in a huge bind having to wait and honestly, after speaking with Jared, there is no one else i would buy a new set of heads from... so i will be patient and wait for the goodies.

this thread is my inspiration and i will be following it closely, so thanks @iqraceworks ...

In the mean time, ive ordered the following items to aid in my swap...
https://www.ebay.com/itm/OTC-6766-Fo...72.m2749.l2649
i know a socket works as thats what ive been using, but this seems like it will be more proficient.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Powers...72.m2749.l2649
one of my workmates offered to loan me his head lifter bracket, but i like having my own tools.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/CTA-Tools-9...72.m2749.l2649
https://www.ebay.com/itm/6-0L-Powers...72.m2749.l2649
i know this is probably not needed, but im not taking any chances not having the correct tools for the job.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/6-0L-2003-P...72.m2749.l2649
this was the best deal i could find on OEM Ford GP's and Harness.

i will try to update this thread as things progress, and of course i will be asking questions. Thanks for looking guys, please stay tuned.

Jared emailed me back and said he should have me taken care of in the next couple weeks, in case anyone was curious what his current lead times are.

thanks, i will. the closer i get to actually tackling this job the more i dread it.

i was just reviewing @iqraceworks thread and making some notes. as of right now, my batteries, airbox, and all the other stuff needed to remove the v/c's are off. the v/c's, oil rails and middle injectors are off both sides. at this point i am guessing i need to finish removing the top end stuff... oil and fuel filter assemblies, turbo, Y pipe. loosen rockers, loosen the nuts on the studs (mine is already studded), then twist the studs out with an allen leaving the nuts on them so the studs will come off with the heads (at least the ones that wont pull completely out direct).

will i need to remove any of the accessory drive stuff (brackets, pumps, etc) from the front of the motor? this is an 03.

I got a little done today. Tore down to the point of getting the turbo off. Looks like im gonna need a rebuilt turbo, maybe an upgrade. Theres a little shaft play. Found a bolt missing too. Also, Im thinking my oil leak may be the drain back tube.

Does this look like too much shaft play?

A little up and down shaft play is normal since the oil pressure holds the shaft centered while spinning, but there should be practically zero in and out play.

Monday came and went, no heads. I called today and was informed that the first email was just a notification that the label was created, another email will be coming when they actually leave. I think there is more to the story, why would a shipping label be created for a shipment that wasnt ready, and if it was ready, why didnt it get picked up.

Anyhow, i am still patiently waiting.
