Exclamation I want to know what parents think

What are you feelings on the problems with toys and food coming from communist china with lead and other toxic substances
I'm only 25 and don't have any kids yet, but think it should be stoped with severe penalties for companies.
Doesn't seem like bush cares about anything but oil and his wallet.

I do agree that we should stop buying products from China, with all the problems we have had of late with them should be enough, that aside, the products are just crap. However; we should not expect our government to step in. The corporations who are taking our money should be. We collectively should be putting a stop to this. I would like to see the buy american campaign come back. If we stopped buying the products the corporations would have to listen. The problem is that everyone wants the government to do something. Remember, these are the people who couldn't find a jackazz while looking another member of congress in the face. IMO the government is just too involved in our lives as it is. If we were to affect the bottom line of the companies, that would affect the bonus the CEO gets, and that would make them change their minds. The only thing a CEO cares about is their bonus, they could care less about the company, no matter what they say. They get their money and get out, and then it is someone else's problem. Just like Congress.

You can blame your lame assed congress and state govt for taxing the hell outta corporations to make them want to look to other countries to manufacture stuff. As well as your neighbor that wants something for cheap, regardless of the quality.....

Cant blame the prez. Thats just ignant. How about that minimum wage increase---is working in a factory assembling widgets worth 7 bucks an hour? Probably not, but gov't mandates it...so guess who pays more.....you the consumer....you want it for the same price you say? Oh, well then lets make it overseas...now its the "same" cheaper price again. artificial inflation baby.

Less gov't in our lives makes for happier and more profitable people.

Blame ourselves....

It's not necessarily all the governments fault. Corporate profits are driven by us as Investors and shareholders (not everyone dabbles in the stock market, but I'll bet most of you here has a 401K, so in essence you are a shareholder of some company). Republicans vote to not have tariffs and taxes on imported goods because they say competition is good. It stimulates the economy. All the while goods that we export are taxed in overseas countries. Congress usually turns a blind eye because we like our low-cost foreign goods. Take a look at the national deficit. Democrats vote for unionized labor and taxes and tariffs on imports, which makes all products more expensive. However -

We the people can share a lot of the blame....All you have to do is look at the proliferation of Walmart over the last 20 years. It hasn't grown so big because of the government or Reaganomics, its grown the way it has because we the consumer like low cost goods. About 99% of that chit comes from WTF-ese places in the far east. Face it, in order to keep products made in America, we are going to have to be willing to spend more money for everything we buy, and not be willing to buy foreign crap.

When we (consumers) speak with our wallets, companies and governments have to listen.

Couldn't have said it better myself. If you want it fixed fix it yourself. I get so sick and tired of people beoching & moaning all the time about China & what is our government going to do. If you don't like it - don't buy it. 90% of the people that blah blah blah USA all day will shop anywhere or buy anything to save a dime. You decide what you want but if you want cheap don't tell me that our government is ruining our economy. Remember when your vcr or tv broke and you went and got it fixed. Today you just run to Walmart and buy another for $49.95. I could care less where you shop and what you buy but please remember that you are making the decision every time you bust out that wallet - not our government.

Money talk,,,

And corporate America listens. I agree with the above posts - the people can make a difference if they put their money where their frustrations are. Myself, I buy as little as possible that's made in china, I probably spend less than $50.00/year at Walmart and avoid most any chain store, including fast food places. I hate "Generica", same made in china crud no matter where you go and all towns' business districts look alike. I'd rather shell out and extra dollar or two to support made in USA and local businesses.
