Tire Pressure

What kind of pressure are you guys running in your tires? I'm running 385/70's at 35psi and I think they could use much more. They seem really bouncy to me. Maybe it's because of the 16's? Just curious to see what everyone else is running.

Empty: 70 psi front; 60 psi rear.

Use the side wall PSI from the manufacturer as a guide. I for one use the 10% rule. Your PSI cold should change no more than 10% when hot. So check the PSI first thing in the morning, then drive the truck to get the tires and internal air warm, pull over checking the PSI again. The difference should be close to 10%. This will show the tire is making the proper contact patch on the ground. Sure you can adjust this for ride comfort. I find the lower PSI will make it feel squishy.

Thats what I found to happen. I figured dropping the pressure some would make them ride better but it just made then bouncy. Bad thing for me is they were filled with Nitrogen(not my choice). So I guess I have to have a tire shop fill them up?

You can top off with regular air if you want. The nitrogen fill is a better choice I recall due to the characteristics of the gas. It tends to react less to changes in temperature.

Yea I did some research right after I posted that question. I'll fill them up to around 60psi tomorrow while I'm at work and see how it feels. I also think that if I were to have the shocks setup correctly that could help things a lot.

On a side note, HeavyAssault where's Middle, Va in relation to Winchester?

I would disregard most of the above suggestions and check out the load and inflation tables from Toyo for your tires.

The max psi on those tires according to Toyo is 50 psi so anything over that like the 60/70/80 psi recommendations would quickly damage the tire. And at 50 psi those tires will support 4190lbs ea. So unless you have 4500 lbs of concrete in the back of your truck you will want to lower the pressure so they don't wear right down the middle and ride even worse.

Without knowing the exact weight of your truck both front and rear I'm going to say that 40 psi front and 30-35 psi rear would be a great starting place.

As far as Nitrogen goes the main advantage is that the molecules are bigger so they will lose a bit less pressure over long (1 year +) periods of time but for someone who takes a few minutes to check their tire pressure every few months this is a non-issue. Also because pure Nitrogen is drier than regular air it is less affected be temperature although the difference between the 2 is very small.
