Hydroboost

I have an e99 F350 and there is always a little bit of noise which, to me, seems like the power steering pump. I can deal with the noise but the real problem is that if I brake hard, like unexpectedly and highway speeds, the power steering goes out until it settles down and I top off the fluid.

I've read a little and it seems that this issue could be connected to the hydroboost.

I'm taking it in to a mechanic later, a neighbors shop, that doesn't specialize in anything in particular. I'd like to be able to give him a little more direction when I drop it off.

If anyone could tell me a little more about what I might be up against I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!
