7 Lug rims? Whats the deal?

Hey guys just out of curiosity whats the deal with the 7 lug rims? I have seen OBS, f-series, and e-series with them. I guess i dont understand how come they do the 7 lug sometimes and other times they get the full 8-lugs. Theres no rhyme or reason i have found for them. Any ideas guys?

It's an odd one for sure, no one seems to know why ford decided to use a 7 lug setup!!!

The 7 lug setup was used on heavy duty F-150's with the 7700# package from about 1997 on, and on the light duty F-250's before the Superduty came out.

I have never seen one up close but have always heard complaints about them because they are so "one of a kind" odd.
